![]() Spokane's new Vespa dealer? Recently, we heard that a new dealership was being established here, from the proverbial ashes of the former Camp Motorsports stock. A call from Bryce Rich, one of our friends from the Two-Percent club, indicated that the folks who had been selling Camp’s former stock were in discussions with Piaggio USA on getting a new dealership started and would be in attendance at the Inland Invasion rally. Sure enough, two of the principals from the operation were there, astride demo Vespa GTS 250i bikes. We had a chance to meet and chat with them, and here’s what we learned: Rick Manfred and Mike Cole, the two fellows putting the dealership together, represent the Dollar Rent-a-Car outlet on North Division selling the Vespa stock formerly held by Camp Motorsports. According to Rick, sales had progressed so well that they decided to investigate the possibility of ordering more bikes and getting a dealer franchise here in Spokane. In fact, said Rick, Dollar’s outlet in Coeur d’Alene seemed a perfect place to rent Vespas, and they hoped to extend their offerings there, too. Both wanted to stress they weren’t and aren’t affiliated with the former Camp operation. Rick said that at first, Piaggio/Vespa was a little hesitant, but the deal was been struck, and the group is already planning trips to Piaggio tech school for mechanic’s training and eventual certification for service work. Things will likely progress slowly from there, Rick said, since many parts and accessories can only be pre-ordered from Vespa on an annual basis, and that stock won’t be available until later in the year. |
