St. Patrick's Warm-Up Ride |
|
Saturday, 17 March 2007 |
Token shamrocks... It wasn’t exactly official, but our meet-up with the Two-Percent group on St. Patrick’s Day probably constituted the Minions’ first ride of the year. The weather was fantastic, and it was great to get the bikes back on the road and thoughts focused on the upcoming season. Details: • Many of the Two-Percent guys are also members of the Couer d’Alene Black-Metal band Scatterbox, and since nearly every venue in downtown Spokane is booked solid on St. Patrick’s Day, the guys were here to play a late-night set at The Boulevard. • Two-Percent Sean was nice enough to suggest a two-club meeting and ride starting at noon starting at Lion’s Lair. (Thanks, Sean!) • Rick’s bike was still out of commission, so Paul and Marla kindly offered up one of their ET4s, and doubled up on their other ride. • Notice went out earlier in the week via e-mail and this site’s ride flag (it’s at the upper right-hand corner of the page, Mark!)
Delivery: • Rick, Charlotte, Paul, Marla and Mark arrived in time for a brief visit with Two-Percent dudes Bryce, Shawn and Ryan. Some good background about this year’s Inland Invasion was shared – watch our “Events” posts area for more on this – as well as some juicy details about former Two-Percent Tommy’s adventures in Portland (he’s now in Kalispel, Montana). • The Two-Percent club’s string of Spokane traffic and/or parking fines was extended, this time with a City parking ticket for Shawn and three Diamond Parking fines ($25 each!) for Bryce, Ryan and Sean. • Our bunch was keen on riding to brunch at the Skyway Café, a local favorite located adjacent to Spokane’s Municipal Felt’s Field airport. • Since Sean and friends showed up a half-hour late and wanted to linger over Bloody Marys, the Minion group took off for the Skyway, and a side trip to check up on Vespa of Spokane.
Dish: ...and classic kitsch. • The Skyway Café makes the most of its location, through décor and lots of small planes leaving and arriving just outside the window. It’s a fun spot, with a nice wait staff. As for the food, let’s just say we think the Skyway Café does make the most of its location. Oh, and it would've been nice to have taken a photo of Mark's mountain of a cinnamon roll.
• The visit to Camp Motorsports/Spokane Vespa was pretty discouraging. Check the article elsewhere on the site; seems its time for a new game in town. • The group took off on a cross-town trip following Mission Avenue to Maxwell, which turned into our Aubrey L. White classic run, which turned into a backwards jaunt to Nine-Mile dam, then up Charles Road, across Four Mounds and back downtown using Downriver Drive and Monroe to the Rocket on Cedar. • We'll go easy on Paul - it's too early yet - but it seems "Barbie " is back. • This kinda hurts to put this in print, but maybe most of us are just too damn old for Scatterbox. Ouch! Nice conversation over coffee, more plans for this year, and Rick’s promise to get the bugs worked out of his P200 motor transplant wrapped up the day. All in all, it was a nice way to enjoy an early spring day, and a great way to begin the 2007 riding season! |
