![]() Weekend vesparados Camp Kaylagonna - "Paul and Marla cancelled on Friday evening, which left just me, Brian and Mort to meet at Camp Motorsports . I should say Camp Vespa, but in my mind, they haven’t earned the name yet. For the third time in two weeks, I went inside to look at the remaining inventory, this time with Mort and Brian in tow. This visit like each visit before: New sales manager stays in office; new sales manager does not notice us, or even appear interested. We walk out shaking our heads. One major ‘No Confidence’ vote, IMHO.” (We say: c'mon out, Angela!) Chilled Out - “The ride out was a bit nippy and uneventful, and by the time we dropped into town, all we wanted was coffee – hot coffee. We met 2% Sean at City Park, who quickly led us to Café Doma Coffeehouse on Sherman, where Bryce and a couple other friendly 2% clubbies awaited. Doma’s lattes and mochas were great – tasty and served in pretty cups with artsy froth – but key to our needs, they were hot. Life restored, the group decided to bag all previous riding plans and instead head out to the Coeur d’Alene Fairgrounds for the annual “Fiesta Italiana.” ![]() Bryce garage scene Hey, Mambo! - “The festival turned out to be a great idea. Lots of Italian food of course, but we discovered Chianti serves up well with a little Piaggio on the side. Bryce, both single and smooth, worked a little deal with a female parking attendant who wanted a ride on a vintage Vespa: not only did we avoid parking fees, we were personally escorted to the front door of the event! Our Vespas parked prominently next to the entrance, we proceeded to have a great time inside. Italian beer and wine was flowing in spite of the fact that none of it was for sale. Inspired by Idaho liquor restrictions, crackers were priced at $2 each – but each cracker came with a complimentary (large) glass of wine or beer. Italian crackers? Love ‘em! At the end, Minions and 2%er's alike vowed to make a return visit to Fiesta Italina next year – it’d be a great end of season social gathering.” Vespa Sidebar - “Notes to promoters: 1) It sure seemed the most popular Italian attraction at the festival were our Italian Vespas parked outside. Maybe an invitation next year, guys? 2) Could a certain dealer have set up shop at the Italian festival and sold a few Vespas, and/or sparked interest with every Italio-phile in attendance? We thought so.” Leather Chaps, Seriously - "The ride home featured a hilarious encounter with two leather clad, logo-branded riders of a certain American motorcycle. While approaching the State line, we caught up with the pair at a stoplight. Though we pulled up alongside, the two offered nary a wave, nod or burp: it was if we were invisible. Or perhaps not. They tried their best to pull away at the light, but our trusty bikes matched their progress all the way. Obviously, the riders were starting to grow weary of our (non) presence - perhaps compounded by the prospect of being seen hounded by scooters while approaching 'Cruisers,' the popular Post Falls Harley hangout. A stoplight later, and the two glanced our way, but grudgingly - as if marking the presence of un-scripted extras in their imaginary movie shoot. The V-twin twins inched away from the light this time, letting us surge ahead, neatly avoiding even proximity with those ghastly scooters seen passing Cruisers." Day’s distance logged? About 70 miles. A great time was had by all, and to the several regulars who couldn’t make it: you were missed. October 7th Ride - Flash® Photos |
