Headlight
Sorta like this.
With just two Thursday rides to go, it was a bummer to see temperatures drop, skies turn cloudy and light rain begin to fall that afternoon. But having been fooled once by Spokane’s weather, we were determined to show up and give it a go.

Just Colin and Rick showed up on-time, and with daylight at a premium, pushed off at 6:15 for a new loop including areas north that might be a choice for next year’s Spokane Scoot . Heavy coats, gloves and jeans were necessary to ward off cold that while perhaps tolerable in winter months, felt awfully strange in mid-September. The route carried the two up Monroe, past Country Homes (when were these last actually in the “country?"), north of the Whitworth campus to Dartford Drive, just west of the Wandermere golf course. From there, Rick led as far up West Hazard Road as daylight allowed, then returned back to Country Homes via Dartford, passing Commellini's restaurant along the way.

Cold? Yup. Dark? Headlights were nice to have. Rain? Nope. In fact, the wettest part of the ride was likely downtown, where a burst water main earlier that day still had the intersection of Main and Howard fairly soaked. The only other notable item was the white-tail deer that jumped across the road in front of the two scoots, along (the appropriately-named) Hazard Road.

Back downtown, the folks at Far West Billiards served up some really great appetizers and beer to wrap things up while Colin elaborated on the finer points of Japanese Anime’, “Host” bars (a job he says he’d love to have), and the fact that he met Yumi, his close-to-being fiancée because he was two minutes late to a Minion ride last year.

“Just ‘cause there’s just two riders doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun,” said Colin.

No doubt.
