Thursday crew
Gelato Vespastics
We’ll call it a mix and match route this week – city neighborhoods and wheat fields, highway speeds and slow-paced twisties, gelato...and lager beer.

The first two combinations worked out pretty well.

First off, Colin made his first appearance since visiting Japan for what has to be the world’s most long-distance relationship. Brian and Mort were there of course, and Mark was on-hand, even though he’d just returned from a motorcycle tour of Montana with his son.

Rick picked the Hangman Creek route, which basically tracks up the South Hill to Hatch Road, down to Hangman, across the prairie to the Palouse Highway – but instead of returning back on that busy/fast stretch of south Spokane, the group crossed to Willow Springs, which turns back very near Regal on Windmill Drive. From there, Regal made for a nice route back to 57th Avenue, where Colin’s chosen finish line, Ferrantes, awaited.

Gelato and lager beer: No one was in the mood for Ferrante’s specialty pizzas, but three in the group tried their second claim to fame, Italian gelato – including Rick, who seemingly HAD to have a end-of-ride beer. In truth, some beers go quite well with ice cream (ever had a stout float?) but Rick’s combo of Italian vanilla and Belgian-style lager was more comic than cusine.

The ride was short, so there was plenty of time to talk about:

  • No word on Alicia’s baby, though it seems the arrival date was about now. Any news out there?
  • Mark mentioned that Kayla from Camp Motorsports seems to have left her job. Sorry to see her gone; we’ll have to check up on her replacement.
  • Mort is leaving on a two-week western-states trip to visit family.
  • Mark’s considering driving a truck – and maybe a trailer, too – to the Tri-Cities for the Bacchus rally .
  • Rick promised to post the Minions gear webpage on the site, in case anyone wanted to represent in Richland. (Plans for members-only goodies are in the works...)
  • Saturday rides until winter’s arrival seemed to find general approval, including an October 7th trip to Coeur d’Alene, perhaps with a meet-up with a few of the 2% clubbies.

Rick announced a schedule change for the last two Thursday night rides: mark your calendars for the 14th and the 21st, at which time it’s Saturdays-only, and once or twice a month at that. If you haven’t ridden with the group in a while, get the bike out soon!
