Another Thursday, and another great, odds-beating ride during Spokane’s wettest June on record. In fact, winds played a larger role for the group than fear of rain, as Rick’s plan to take the group south through Hangman Valley was scratched in favor of an in-town, less blustery route up Mt. St. Michaels.

Speaking of blustery, the group was happy to see Doug back in-town, with fresh news about his “Doug Dobbins dot Com” blog, events at Microsoft, and info on the Senate race between Maria Cantwell and challenger Mike McGavick. He even found a particularly receptive audience with Collin, when he displayed a fair bit of knowledge on the subject of scooter CV transmissions.

In keeping with the high winds versus small-displacement ratio there that evening, Rick led the group along Upriver Drive to Freya, then right on the small segment of Lincoln that winds up the hillside to the Mt. St. Michael Seminary. The group stopped for pictures, and to take in in some of the scenery at the top before heading west on Francis to Five-Mile Prairie and back downtown via Ft. George Wright and Government Way.

This evening, votes favored the Elk for the after-ride stop - since winds had by then died considerably, and the spot’s outdoor seating area can’t be beat for summer nights. One highlight: Jonny’s friend Pat stopped by, pledging to get his P200 running again in time for next week’s ride. Another highlight: two friends of Mort visited the group’s table, partly to say hello, partly out of interest in the scooters parked nearby. One joke offered by the duo was particularly enjoyable, and we expect Mort would relish the chance to re-tell it - just ask him about breast-enlargement at the next ride. dingbat
