Camp Ride Recap

2006 lineup at Camp Vespa
The first Camp Breakfast Ride – so named for our terrific sponsors at Camp Motorsports – turned out quite well by all accounts.

We know of at least one individual that seemed convinced rain would soak the parade, but Sunday began bright and clear. By the time the group started riding at 10:00, the roads were completely dry. Great luck, actually, since this June has been the rainiest on record since 1888.

Camp provided a nice breakfast spread including pastries, juice and coffee, which folks enjoyed while chatting with old friends and new. Rick started the ride portion of the morning with introductions, sponsor thanks and a brief outline of the route. After a few group photos by Mort, 14 bikes, some doubled up, left the parking lot for a scenic Peone Prairie loop - north on Fancher to Trent, Trent to Market, Upriver Drive to Evergreen, and Bigelow Gulch Road to Argonne, where the riders stopped at the Rocket Coffee house for espresso shots and more conversation.

None of the bikes had any mechanical issues along the way, except for Rick’s Sprint, which somehow managed to clog an idle jet just one-half mile into the ride. Poetic justice perhaps, since he’d bragged just minutes earlier to Donna about his bike’s reliability. Whatever the cause, the obnoxious sound of Rick revving his (usually) reliable bike at stoplights just to keep it running seemed to amuse Donna.

Riders we knew included Collin, Mort, Alicia, Naci, Rick, Charlotte, Amy and Brian. Kayla rode of course, and there were several new folks we hope to see again, including Mary, Donna, and two other couples whose names we’ll have to include in a later update – since we unfortunately didn’t include a sign-up sheet at the ride.

A last mention and thanks to Mort, who brought a nice “thank-you” token as a gift to Kayla on behalf of the Minions. Check out a shot of it, along with a few other photos, at the link below.

We hope Travis Camp and Kayla were pleased, because we sure were, and hope there’ll be many more opportunities for similar rides promoting Camp Motorsports/Vespa! dingbat
