Hammin' for the Hamster rally
Six-plus hours is a long way to drive these days, but for a well-run rally in a way-cool town, it's likely to be worth it.

At least that's the report back from Rick, Charlotte, Paul and Marla, the four clubbies who attended last weekend's "Hamster Run," held waaay up in the Northwest corner of Washington - Bellingham, to be precise.

Bellingham lifers often refer to their town as “The ‘Ham,” thus the rally name and hamster-wheel logo the local club, Scooters of Bellingham, adopted for the event. This was the third year for the rally, and the weather, the food, the rides, and the turnout by all accounts was the best yet.

Weather? Mostly sunny and cool. Food? Burritos for breakfast, tri-tip steak, salmon and Boundary Bay micro-brew for dinner. Rides? World-famous, cliff-hugging Chuckanut Drive, plus Skagit farm-country, beach and lakeshore runs. Turnout? 80-plus folks, including Seattlites, Canadians, locals and four from Spokane.

Of course, road trips include lots of background stories best told over coffee or beer, and we’ll save those for the clubhouse. But to prime the conversation, we’ll list a few potential story headers here:
Paul and Marla’s new van imitates Exxon Valdez
Rick and Charlotte try long-distance touring
Club takes home sweet “Furthest Traveled” trophy
Paul rides “Thunder” the horse

Congrats and thanks to the S.O.B. club for the hospitality, and for a fantastic, well-organized, and fun rally. Six hour drives ain't so bad when you’ve got a destination as great as the Bellingham Hamster Run. dingbat
