Spokane gets Genuine. Yea! (Note: here's the last of Prez Mark's three-part intro to some of the Club's key sponsors. Thanks, again, sponsors!)
Spokane may be the second-largest (well, we're essentially tied for second) city in Washington State, but sometimes, it takes awhile for the good stuff to arrive. Such was the case with a Genuine™ scooter dealership here in River City. But late last year, somebody finally stepped up and got genuine about Genuine - in our case, the good folks at Wheel Sport. The central location of this bicycle chain, at 1711 N. Division Street, is now the place to go for two of the best (non-Vespa) rides available - the Genuine Buddy and Stella scooters. Craig at Wheel Sport personally rides the "Black Jack" model Buddy 150, and is finding it tough to decide whether he's more enthused about bicycles or riding scooters. Fast and reliable with cool styling, graphics and paint make the Buddy one of the most highly-rated scoots on the market. Add the Black Jack's Prima pipe and wave brake disk rotor, and you've got even more accelleration and stopping power. Wheel Sport's first Stella 150 in avocado green arrived a few days ago - and was immediately sold - but it's nice to know there's more where that came from right here in Spokane. Perhaps the hottest news in classic scooters is the rumored 2010 four-stroke Stella 150 with manual transmission. Few doubt this is an idea Vespa should've persued, but Genuine's got a great rep, so start schmoozing Wheel Sport to be among the first to get one. Thanks to Wheel Sport Central for joining the club as a gold Sponsor! |

Hades. Today, it's cooler. It's 99º F today in Spokane. Not a record, but close to it - regardless, it's waay, waay hot here. To quote Matthew Broderick from Biloxi Blues, "Man it's hot. It's like Africa hot. Tarzan couldn't take this kind of hot."Several of the gang got together this morning for coffee and to - as the invite put it - "discuss how it's just too hot to ride." Of course, we discussed other stuff. Like how preperations are coming along for the September 11-13 Spokane Scoot. About the fact that Thomas Hammer of Thomas Hammer Coffee came by to say hello. About this year's Ride & Seek challenge, and about Scott and Michael's recent epic ride to Winthrop. And about Paul and Jonna's recent trip to Bellingham for this year's Hamster Run. No pictures or bold exploits today, just nice conversation. When it's winter and 2º F outside (like it was when Rick and Scott did their Cold Weather Challenge ride last winter), we'll think even more fondly of today's non-ride. (BTW, see Orin O'Neil's Hamster Run photo gallery here, and other images at the mighty Scoot.net. Several with Paul and Jonna!)

SWM + Triumph = Empire! (Note: here's the second of Prez Mark's three-part intro to some of the Club's key sponsors. Thanks, all!)
Hard to believe, but it's already been two years since Minions' sponsors Debbie and Bob began Empire Cycle. Empire is Spokane's exclusive SYM scooter dealer, and carries a complete inventory of all models, including the CityCom 300i. This urban commuter, featuring 16-inch wheels and electronic fuel ignition is perhaps the fastest scoot on the road - and the price is ultra-reasonable, too. If you're looking for something a bit more "townie," see Empire for the new SYMBA model. This bike is basically a re-created Honda Cub (the best-selling motorcycle of all time) with a few modern upgrades. And since SYM has a tight relationship with Honda, they've done the Cub design proud. This 101 cc, 4-stroke, 3 speed automatic wonder will reach 50-plus mph - all while delivering somewhere between 100 and 150 mpg! All this for around $2500.00 bucks. As a special incentive to Minion members and friends, Empire will waive set-up and shipping fees on all scooters thru August.
Empire has a full and experienced service department, carries the great Corrazo scooter-wear brand, and in case you missed it, they are the exclusive dealer of Triumph Motorcycles in the Inland Empire. Truth be told, if one were to cross over to a motorcycle, Triumph would likely be at the top of the list. Receive 20% off accessories and parts by referring a friend. See store, or call for details. Check out Empire Cycle at 7807 E. Sprague Avenue. |
