 Running with Hamsters
No, they haven’t been to six rallies. Or even three (so far). But the two they attended were a looong ways away. By that standard, figure Amerivespa, in San Jose, counts for at least four regional trips – it’s over 1,000 miles each way! And their visit to the Scooter Club of Bellingham’s Hamster Run should count for double, since that’s at least 700 miles total. So we’re spotting them for a six-rally commitment level, not counting this year’s Spokane Scoot, or the club’s recent Canada trip.
So kudos to Paul and Jonna for representing the gang at points well over the horizon.
Here’s Paul’s photo gallery from their Hamster Run trip. It’s a nice rally – several of the Minions have been in the last few years, and the Scooters of Bellingham group (SOB) are friendly folks. As a city, Bellingham rocks, as does the scenery, the town being right on the Sound adjoining the San Juan Islands. It does rain a lot there – moss replaces Rogaine for many a resident - and this year, about half of Saturday’s events got soggy.

 Got a scoot? Spokane Scoot! For us (and we hope you, too), that means it's time to make plans for the annual Spokane Scoot - one of, if not the largest scooter rally in the Inland Northwest - now in its fifth year. Our short-stroke ad copy reads: "Join the Minions SC for the fifth annual Spokane Scoot, featuring Inland Northwest twists on rally faves – moonlight ride, long scenic loops, yummy food, and last but not least, imbibe-itude. Scooter friends from around the Northwest, plus another cool patch for the collection. Laid-back good times, guaranteed."

 Spokane gets Genuine. Yea!
Spokane may be the second-largest (well, we're essentially tied for second) city in Washington State, but sometimes, it takes awhile for the good stuff to arrive. Such was the case with a Genuine™ scooter dealership here in River City. But late last year, somebody finally stepped up and got genuine about Genuine - in our case, the good folks at Wheel Sport. The central location of this bicycle chain, at 1711 N. Division Street, is now the place to go for two of the best (non-Vespa) rides available - the Genuine Buddy and Stella scooters. Craig at Wheel Sport personally rides the "Black Jack" model Buddy 150, and is finding it tough to decide whether he's more enthused about bicycles or riding scooters. Fast and reliable with cool styling, graphics and paint make the Buddy one of the most highly-rated scoots on the market. Add the Black Jack's Prima pipe and wave brake disk rotor, and you've got even more accelleration and stopping power. Wheel Sport's first Stella 150 in avocado green arrived a few days ago - and was immediately sold - but it's nice to know there's more where that came from right here in Spokane. Perhaps the hottest news in classic scooters is the rumored 2010 four-stroke Stella 150 with manual transmission. Few doubt this is an idea Vespa should've persued, but Genuine's got a great rep, so start schmoozing Wheel Sport to be among the first to get one.
