Gelato Vespastics We’ll call it a mix and match route this week – city neighborhoods and wheat fields, highway speeds and slow-paced twisties, gelato...and lager beer.
The first two combinations worked out pretty well.
First off, Colin made his first appearance since visiting Japan for what has to be the world’s most long-distance relationship. Brian and Mort were there of course, and Mark was on-hand, even though he’d just returned from a motorcycle tour of Montana with his son.Rick picked the Hangman Creek route, which basically tracks up the South Hill to Hatch Road, down to Hangman, across the prairie to the Palouse Highway – but instead of returning back on that busy/fast stretch of south Spokane, the group crossed to Willow Springs, which turns back very near Regal on Windmill Drive. From there, Regal made for a nice route back to 57th Avenue, where Colin’s chosen finish line, Ferrantes, awaited.

Tall shadows, short rides This week’s ride sparked memories of springtime – when evenings were short, group sizes were small, and seasonal temperatures broke every so often, hinting at things to come.It was good to see two riders making their return from mechanical absences; Brian’s PX is running once more thanks to Sean Nicol, and John showed up again, having fixed his bike’s drive belt. Of course, Rick was there as (nearly) always. The group did a little improvisation using the August 3rd ride as a model, basically reversing things, beginning on Strong Road to Assembly, Assembly to Andrus, Cheney-Spangle to Curtis, Curtis to Sherman and back, arriving at the Elk just before dark. The trip was – and we know this is sounding repetitive – another great one; light traffic kept the pace relaxed, numerous farms and wetlands made it really scenic, and the limited daylight kept the ride relatively short. Rainfall the day prior cleared the skies of the wildfire haze so typical this year, which helped make things even more enjoyable. |

Paul n' Barbie, Part II We could say we were tired of riding scenic country routes, but that wouldn’t actually be true. Instead, we’ll just call the route Rick led the group on Thursday a work in progress, with half of the loop figured out, and the other half needing just a little improvement.
Cindy, Mort, Paul, Mark, Charlotte and Rick made up the pack this night, and a bit of the discussion early on had to do with the absence of regulars Brian, John, and Collin. Seems the first two were suffering bike troubles, and as far as anyone knew, Colin was still vacationing in Japan. Word is, Shaun’s attending to Brian’s bike, while John is waiting for a replacement tranny belt for his hot-rod Vino. |
