This year’s events committee figured the group needed at least one epic trip in 2008. And at just six hours away, Glacier National Park seemed like the perfect destination. So plans were made for August 15-18, and seven clubbies made the trip. Below, Prez Mark provides a bit of narration to accompany the photo gallery:

“If there was ever a road made for scooters, Glacier Park’s ‘Going to the Sun Highway’ is it. Road lanes are narrow – which, along with steep drops nearly the entire route, helps keep speeds down. That’s a good thing, because views to adjacent peaks, valleys, and the park’s namesake glaciers are everywhere. In short, the place is gorgeous to the point of being a dangerous distraction.

I scooted Glacier a couple years ago, and after sharing a few pictures of that journey, the club was sold on the idea of making a trip in 2008. Suggesting that we might be the first scooter club to ride up and over Logan Pass probably helped seal the deal, too.

Plans were made, club funds were allocated to help defray travel and camping expenses, and on August 15th, we were off.

Wimpy, or Uncle Gherkin?
Our fourth, biggest and most successful version of Spokane Scoot may have been a lot of work, but it was a blast. If you were there, or helped in any way, thanks.

Numerous snapshots have already been posted in Scoot.net and elsewhere, but per tradition, we’ve pulled together some of the best images to post in our own captioned gallery. Check it out below.

We had one local TV station provide a little pre-event promotion – thanks KHQ – and Spokane’s paper of record, the Spokesman-Review, did the same. We even had a photographer from the local weekly, The Pacific Northwest Inlander, show up during Saturday’s ride. Having the media around is always great – especially this year, when gas prices were way up and Vespas seemed to be on every street corner here in Spokane.

Spokane Scoot's a classic-style, laid-back rally, including long scenic rides, great eats, local beer, cool prizes, games, live music, a city-lights night ride and more.

'Scoot sponsors include Corrazo, EcoTech, Empire Cycle, Scooterworks, Cycle Gear, Red Bull, Sandy Singh Massage and Northern Quest Casino.

Gas prices strangling your travel plans? We feel your pain, and have lined up a bunch of clubbie in-home, free accommodations to help make things better. Get in touch with Scott if you'd like to take advantage.

On the other hand, gas prices seem to have made the scooter population around here explode. 50-plus riders at last year's 'Scoot...hope you'll be part of an even bigger event this year! dingbat
