Signal to wake ET/LX riders We’ve been a little more focused on rider safety recently, since we’ve been doing a lot of group rally rides and since Rick’s wife Charlotte just finished a local Motorcycle Safety Foundation rider training course to nab her license endorsement (congratulations, Charlotte!)
Anyway, we ran across this great “how-to” video all about group rides and thought we’d post it for the good of the cause. Entitled the “MSF Guide to Group Riding,” it covers a lot of territory, from hand signals, to travel formations, to stuff we’re maybe too familiar with - like mechanical breakdowns during rides. There’s a lot to absorb, and frankly, there’s a lot we could all take pointers on. Well worth watching.
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation website is a fantastic resource, by the way. The site includes several other instructional videos, scores of documents and even a (sort-of) instructional video game called the Motorcycle Challenge.
Check it out, or at least be ready to tell Rick you did, so he won’t be tempted to bring several of the MSF movies to the next group meet and force everyone to watch. MSF Group Rides (QuickTime® movie) |

Rick's high-style brother A common sight at this year's Bacchus Raucous was Bombastic Tom, astride his giant BMW GS motorcycle and taking pictures (yes, sometimes while riding!).The upshot is, Tom's a pretty good photographer, and he's cobbled together a nice YouTube™ piece from stills and video taken during Bacchus Raucous five. Check out the link below to watch - reminisce if you were there, or pledge to travel with the Minion contingent next year if you weren't. Thanks, Tom, for all the nice work, and for setting the bar for us - gotta get our own snaps and video up soon from this year's Spokane Scoot! Bacchus Racuous V video (YouTube™ link) |

Mark, at Bird Woman Falls Most of us see Club Veep “Minion Mark” pretty frequently, but for those that don’t ride as often as they should – and maybe miss out on some of the stories we get to hear – we’re sharing this item.
Background: At last spring’s ride scheduling meeting, someone in the group suggested a weekend trip to Glacier National Park, but since nobody had ever tried it on a scooter, the idea never made it onto the calendar. Enter Mark, who’d been there before and thought it might be a nice way to try out his nearly-perfect, barn-find P125. On a recent weekend, he and a relative trailered two bikes to Glacier, camped, and rode the entire famously-scenic climb. Wrote Mark:
“Heading out of town for the weekend so I thought I would do some catch-up on some pictures I wanted to share with fellow members. Fact is, riding to the top of the ‘Going to the Sun Highway’ can be accomplished quite easily, even on my P125. I’ve included a few other pictures we took while hiking peaks along the Continental Divide, which we accessed using the new free shuttle program in Glacier. These 12-person buses (not the orange Fords) will deposit you at any roadside trailhead or attraction and pick you up as late as 9 pm, which was great for our loop hikes.”
So now that Mark’s done the reconnaissance, we expect more than lip service to a Glacier trip next year! Check out his photos below.
