So green...and so photogenic! One of the nicest things about this year's Spokane Scoot was all the attention it helped generate.Even now, we encounter folks who - sometimes because the subject of scooters comes up, or sometimes just out of the blue - mention having seen "a whole bunch of scooters" parked downtown or traveling in a pack, late last summer. Like the angel/devil on-shoulder thing in cartoons, part of us thinks this is great for scootering in general - you know, promoting alternative transportation, saving resources, minimizing our eco-footprint, etc. The other part of us just plain loves the attention. (And if you've ridden with a big group before, admit it - you do, too!) |

Would another smell as sweet? This is freaky stuff, really.A recent post on one of our favorite scooter blogs, 2-Stroke Buzz, listed the address of a unique product that reportedly makes the exhaust of most any motor smell like - well, like one of 19 things, from banannas, to bubble gum, to pina coladas. From the looks of the Manhattan Oil site, it's something typically sold to top-fuel dragsters and yes, funny cars. So it would certainly work with small two and four-stroke motors like those on a Vespa. Note that one brand of two-stroke injector oil, Ipone Scoot City, has been on the market for years and supposedly endows (if that's the proper word) your bike with the smell of fresh strawberries. But since we've never encountered someone using it, we can't say whether strawberry-flavored exhaust is a good or bad thing. The French-made Ipone is a bit expensive too, at $12.00 per liter. But with chocolate, root beer and watermelon as options, and the same $12.00 buying you enough freaky juice to scent up 20-30 gallons, the stuff from Manhattan Oil seems pretty intriguing. But you try it first, OK? Fuel Fragrances (weblink) |

Twisties, Kitties...and more. As we cruise the Internet, lots of stories crop up about scooterists and scooter clubs in other cities. Whether they’re fairly close to home - when we can maybe identify with the place, or perhaps know a little about the club from an area rally – or if the story is based in a city we’ve never visited, it seems riders and clubs have a lot in common.
That said, here are four articles we’ve culled recently, most posted for different reasons. The first is actually an older story concerning the Portland scooter scene. First published in 2005 in the Mercury, the article presents a tale of two (or three) clubs in the Rose City, one focused on old-school imbibery, the other about riding – and doing so safely. Opposites, as it were, astride the same vehicle.
