pumpkin scoot
More kooky than spooky.
In the spring, when we got together to plan out our season of weeknight and weekend rides, October seemed a lifetime away.

We should've kept planning.

Mark set this particular ride in motion - we'll call it our first annual Halloween ride - simply because the weekend forecast was looking pretty nice. An e-mail to Rick and the rest was set.

Saturday the 27th arrived and despite the 30-ish temperatures, the sun was out and making the world look and feel much warmer than it was. Spokane's spectacular fall colors were everywhere, and by 10:30 or so, a group including Rick, Mark, Brian and Crystal, Kevin, Pat, Bob, Jack and Melissa pushed off from the Rocket for a low-key, in-town ride.

Octoberscoot, indeed.
Sometimes a little nudge is all it takes to remind you of something worthwhile.

In this case, it was an e-mail from Steve Williams, author of Scooter in the Sticks, a great blog we feature here on the Minions site.

Steve got in touch to let us know that our link to the 'Sticks wasn't functioning, and frankly, we'd noticed it ourselves a few weeks ago but never got around to repairing it. It's been a busy summer for us all.

Glow-mail, from Nuketown!
From the Tri-Cities' Randy and Karen Kimbler - who have made each and every Spokane Scoot, and whose daughter is now riding too, this nice note:

"Another incredible time in Spokane. Thanks to all of you that made it possible. Randy was thoroughly chastened to be one of those that 'broke down.' Needless to say, he'll be carrying tools (thanks, Rob!) for any subsequent muffler failures. Thanks also to all those that kept and eye on the youngest rider (name not mentioned to save embarrassment). We'll look forward to future events, and you can count us in on any other events in 'Spokanistan.'"

OK, kudos to the 2007 'Scoot's youngest rider Kelsey - who despite her youth did a fantastic job riding with the group. As for the kind words, it's visits from folks like the Kimblers that make us look forward to putting on rallies in the first place. Our pleasure, really. dingbat
