SWM + Triumph = Empire! (Note: here's the second of Prez Mark's three-part intro to some of the Club's key sponsors. Thanks, all!)
Hard to believe, but it's already been two years since Minions' sponsors Debbie and Bob began Empire Cycle. Empire is Spokane's exclusive SYM scooter dealer, and carries a complete inventory of all models, including the CityCom 300i. This urban commuter, featuring 16-inch wheels and electronic fuel ignition is perhaps the fastest scoot on the road - and the price is ultra-reasonable, too. If you're looking for something a bit more "townie," see Empire for the new SYMBA model. This bike is basically a re-created Honda Cub (the best-selling motorcycle of all time) with a few modern upgrades. And since SYM has a tight relationship with Honda, they've done the Cub design proud. This 101 cc, 4-stroke, 3 speed automatic wonder will reach 50-plus mph - all while delivering somewhere between 100 and 150 mpg! All this for around $2500.00 bucks. As a special incentive to Minion members and friends, Empire will waive set-up and shipping fees on all scooters thru August.
Empire has a full and experienced service department, carries the great Corrazo scooter-wear brand, and in case you missed it, they are the exclusive dealer of Triumph Motorcycles in the Inland Empire. Truth be told, if one were to cross over to a motorcycle, Triumph would likely be at the top of the list. Receive 20% off accessories and parts by referring a friend. See store, or call for details. Check out Empire Cycle at 7807 E. Sprague Avenue. |

Prez Mark and VOS Rick For the past three years – nearly as long as they’ve been a Vespa dealer - Vespa of Spokane (VOS) has been a Minions’ top-level sponsor. Along with helping grow our club, owner Rick Manfred has been growing his business and product line, too. Right now, Vespa of Spokane has the all-new Vespa 300 Supers in stock, with at least one of each available color: red, black and white. In addition, VOS has a complete inventory of helmets unique to scootering, fashionable jackets and an expanding line of scooter accessories.
Vespa of Spokane is one of very few Vespa dealers that maintain a large enough inventory to allow for "demo" rides (with proper license endorsement). And if you really want to try before you buy, VOS also rents Vespa, Piaggio, or Aprillia scooters for the day or afternoon. Rates are very reasonable, due in part to Rick’s confidence that the thrill of riding a top-quality scoot will inspire you to buy one of your own. If you do rent, be sure to ask whether rental fees can be applied towards bike purchase – we’ve heard VOS will do it. |

Delegates en route Perhaps it had something to do with Paul's having won a new Fireball Stella at Amerivespa Seattle 2007, but Paul and Jonna were the only ones from our gang to commit to this year's Amerivespa in Los Gatos, California.
The two took off a few days in advance of the event, mentioning something about taking the scenic route along the coast, including a day or two in Portland. We received a few photos from them in advance - mostly with Vespa of Portland's huge stock of Vespas and Stellas in the background. Things must've picked up after that, because we didn't hear much from either of the two until the last day of the rally. Since then, the thousands (literally) of photos Paul took have been whittled down to 300 or so images, and cover everything from the trip down, to a quick tour of San Francisco, to the Amerivespa event itself. Check out the photos in our gallery post below, or, if you're a club member, go to the Picasa™ link found on the secure bulletin board area to post those rude comments we know you're dying to make. Several bikes were raffled off, but none found their way into either Paul or Jonna's hands this time. But almost as nice, Jonna won second prize in the "Best Modern Smallframe" category for her Hello Kitty-decorated LX! Thanks to both for making the trip and for representing the club. Looks like a great time, and as we'd hoped, the photos make us wish we'd been there. Next year? Doubtful, but tempting...it's in San Antonio, Texas! Amerivespa 2009 album (Flash™ gallery) |
