See-through or step-through? What’ll power scooters of the future?
The same question concerning cars has of course been the center of conversation lately, what with gasoline in the US finally reaching the pain threshold.
It’s a safe bet that just like today, two-wheeled and four-wheeled motor vehicles will share the same types of power plants.
That’ll mean whatever kinds of motors emerge in the four-wheeled world – be they electric, hybrid, hydrogen, compressed air, or whatever – will need to fit into a two-wheeled package in a way that, at a minimum, retain the same level of utility provided by current vehicles. Range, power, costs, durability … these are functional requirements. |

Much, MUCH nicer than the bird. OK, this isn't a post to brag about a cool bike we get to see sometimes. More like, this is a post to GLOAT about a cool bike we get to see sometimes. One of our regulars, Mark (a.k.a. "Lammy Mark"), showed up at our most recent Wednesday outing astride his oft-mentioned-but-never-seen collector scoot, a 1960 Mitsubishi Silver Pigeon. Having never seen one of these things in person, we'll just spell out the word going through most of our brains when Mark drove up: WOW! The thing's immaculate, it's classic, it's got old-school charm, and it's actually ridable. Check out the pictures and captions below for details, but we doubt the bike left the showroom floor - nearly 50 years ago - in any better shape than it's in right now. Our ride to Cheney and back was even made a little nicer by virtue of the bike's staccato four-stroke bark, reminiscent (and we mean this in a good way) of an old Briggs & Stratton engine. |

Power brokers, #1 and 3 So we've already made mention of most of this in other posts, but for the record and for the sake of nods and kudos to these fine folks, here's congratulations to our new 2008 Minion officer lineup, as follows:Prez - Mark S. Veep - Brian J. Secretary/Treasurer - Marla O. Past Prez - Rick H.
Thanks to the whole bunch for volunteering, and for helping to get the season off to a great start. Rick and the events committee (we've got committees now?) are putting together three season-long member competitions that we know of, the group's planning at least one out-of-town weekend rally trip, and, of course, there's the whole assortment of weeknight and weekend rides already on our calendar. Spokane Scoot planning's underway, with Paul at the swag helm. Should be good. Should be great. 20-plus members and growing, we're havin' scoot fun!
